Senior Makeup artist for Barbara Bort Rae Bowdidge layered the foundation  to warm the skin tone slightly.

"I think starting with a light foundation then adding a slighter darker colour on top helps give a blended coverage without leaving a caked on look," says Bowdidge.

Bowdidge used a blend of green and golds to define lisa's eyes. Pink lipgloss completes the look.

THE GROOMED SPA LOOK
by Rae Bowdidge, Senior Make-up Artist for Barbara Bort

Published In November 2008 edition of Professional Beauty.

Sophisticated work make-up is hard to pull off. There is always a risk of looking like a air hostess- all heavily Laquered hair and scarily over-painted red lips.

The brief her was to transform our model, Lisa in to a groomed face that would be suitable for working in a high end salon or spa. As with all our looks the base is the key. because our model for this look was naturally very pale, Barbara Borts

She also recommends trying samples of foundation on on your face, not the back of your hand, for a good colour. If you dont want to get caught mid-test with a stripey face  by a customer, decant some to take home and try to get the right match for your face.

Bowdidge also feels you shouldnt be afraid of highlighter during the day.

"Use it sparingly on cheekbones and underneath eyebrows during the day to emphasis your bone structure and give skin a dewy glow" she says.

The key palette for subtle sophistician  is earth tones . Creams and browns work well with with most skin tones and eye colours. If you like it slightly darker around the eye, Bowdidge recommends using a darker green or dark blue pencil to line the lashes because it will not look so harsh as Black.

Bowdidge concealed some tiny blemishes by using a green concealer first, followed by cover cream and powder, to neutralise redness"this makes blemishes easier to conceal without having to use tonnes of concealer," says Bowdidge.

To finish the look, set the face with loose powder. " Always use a brush or sponge it stops any oil from your finger tips be transferred to your face," She say. Bowdidge also recommends Investing in an angled brush to use with bronzer or blusher on your cheeks, because it angles into the face giving instant cheek bone defenition.

Et voila. Perfectly groomed and thankfully not a cabin crew member in sight. PB
